10 Problems Steve McClaren Doesn't Want To Admit About Newcastle

9. Half The Team (If Not All) Don't Want To Play For The Manager

The problem with appointing a manager who hasn't managed at the top level for a long time and isn't highly regarded is that he immediately loses the respect of the players. Newcastle have a lot of seasoned internationals, including Moussa Sissoko, Papiss Cisse, Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic and it takes a certain type of manager to be able to manage the egos of that calibre of player. Steve McClaren isn't that man and it has been noticeable in the players' performances that they haven't bought into the former Derby boss' philosophy or tactics. Half of the side (if not all of them) believe they know better than the man in charge and that's when problems occur. On a number of occasions already this season, Sissoko and Wijnaldum have become visibly frustrated by McClaren's commands.
