10 Reasons Liverpool Will Win The Premier League This Year

2. Defensive Reinforcements Have Been Made

It doesn't take a genius to work out that, although Liverpool were devastating going forward last season, and the most entertaining team in the country, defensively they were pretty woeful at times. In the games where they scored fix or six, they often conceded two or three, and the way they fell to pieces against Palace summed it all up really. Too many soft goals were conceded, especially from individual errors, and it ultimately cost them the title. Defensive reinforcements were absolutely essential this summer, and Rodgers has addressed the issue excellently, bringing in a number of new faces who look set to start the majority of matches for the Reds. Lovren is an inspired buy from Southampton, and has the leadership and consistency that the club has lacked at centre-back since the retirement of Jamie Carragher. He may even be a candidate to be Liverpool's next captain, should life on Merseyside go swimmingly for the 25-year-old. Manquillo is a solid addition at right-back, and will hopefully replace the increasingly erratic Glen Johnson, while Alberto Moreno is one of the best young left-backs in Europe. Rodgers has bought in a player with the same ability as Luke Shaw, but for about a third of the price. While Liverpool's naturally attacking style means they will still probably leak more goals someone like Chelsea, for example, their new signings will ensure that they are far less catastrophic at the back than last season.
