10 Shocking Liverpool Departures Nobody Expected

5. Peter Crouch

With his towering frame, questionable dance moves and unimpeachable goal scoring ability, holding onto striking forward Peter Crouch seemed like a smart move. Before landing at Anfield the restless Crouch had ping-ponged about the country, beginning his career at Spurs before being sent out on loan to tiny South London team Dulwich Hamlet and Swedish IFK Hässleholm, before making brief appearances at QPR, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Norwich and Southampton. By the time he got to Liverpool, he seemed like he wanted to settle. And settle he did, as he spent a good three years with the squad between 2005 and 2008, with 22 goals in 85 appearances. During an era where Liverpool were in a constant state of flux having Crouch's dependable performances was a (particularly gangly) rock to cling to...right up until Fernando Torres to turn up. Remember back in the day, when he was characterised by his ability to do nothing but score goals, instead of the opposite? Crouch fell out of favour somewhat, got a red card during a League Cup match, and was off to Portsmouth almost overnight.
