10 Most Undeserving Players Who Appeared 50 Times For Newcastle

2. Mike Williamson - 136 Appearances

At times, Mike Williamson can look like a brilliant reader of the game: he is capable of exceptional interceptions and blocks, and his effort certainly cannot be knocked. Unfortunately, when it comes to almost every single other characteristic that is required of a centre-half, he falls some way short of where Newcastle should be right now. Despite being tall, he cannot direct his headers, or add power through his neck, meaning his clearances are a lottery and the continued use of him as the target man for set-pieces is illogical. He's also slower than treacle rolling down a hill, and when his positional sense isn't great (he tends to rely too heavily on Fabricio Coloccini for guidance and ends up getting shown up if the captain is off form) that means recovering from bad starting positions is simply never going to happen. In truth, Willo is probably no more than a first choice Championship player, or a fourth choice option at a club like Newcastle. He has however now made 136 appearances for the Magpies and that will not change any time soon.
