Some might say that Titus Bramble is the most unfairly criticised player in the history of Newcastle United: after all, he was signed by Sir Bobby Robson, suggested as a future England international and came with a not inconsiderable price tag. The people who make that claim clearly didn't watch a great deal of the former Ipswich player in a Newcastle shirt, because every criticism levelled at him was entirely on the nose. Annoyingly, he was capable of great feats of individual achievement, like scoring that scissor kick against Chelsea in 2006, and occasionally he would have great spells of defensive football. But then like the walking hand grenade he was, he would spectacularly combust and take the rest of the defence with him: his decision making was terrible, and his ability to make the worst possible mistakes was the stuff of legend. He should have been cast off as a failed experiment in seeking potential, but instead his skills were rewarded with almost 150 appearances for Newcastle.
