10 Worst Ever Misses In Premier League History

3. Ronny Rosenthal vs Aston Villa, 1992

Oh Ronny... Over twenty years have passed since Ronny Rosenthal's famous sitter against Aston Villa in the first month of the Premier League's inauguration in 1992, but it remains an incredible miss. The Liverpool marksman latched onto a long ball pumped all the way through a sea of Villa shirts from goalkeeper David James, and rounded his opposite number Nigel Spink with the goal gaping. All that was left was for Rosenthal to roll the ball into an empty net. Little did he know it, the Israeli striker was about to be immortalised for one of football's most famous misses. Rosenthal glided past Spink's despairing dive and with the goal gaping - and under no pressure - even had time to take an extra touch or two before chipping the ball up off the crossbar. To his horror, the ball rebounded back into play and Villa cleared their lines. Worse still from Liverpool's point of view, the Villans even won the game 4-2. In the two decades that have passed, only two players have dropped bigger clangers than this.
