10 Worst Ever Misses In Premier League History

4. Nwankwo Kanu vs Middlesbrough, 2004

Nwankwo Kanu's is no stranger to football blooper DVDs and his name has become synonymous with one of the worst ever misses from the Premier League era. Kanu was playing for West Brom back in 2004 and, in a topflight game against Middlesbrough, stank up the pitch with this horror show. Middlesbrough had taken a 1-0 lead at the half hour mark before Robert Earnshaw pulled one back for the Baggies six minutes later, but Bolo Zenden's header put the visitors back in front. And then came Kanu's dreadful, dreadful miss. The Nigerian was teed up perfectly by Geoff Horsfield at the far post and all he had to do was stick a foot out and it would have been 2-2. Instead, just a yard out from goal, the forward inexplicably tried to flick the ball in, but sent it harmlessly up into the air and the Baggies were beaten. Albion manager Brian Robson was captured on video camera moments later mouthing "how did he miss that?" and a decade on we're still scratching our heads in bewilderment. The former Arsenal striker incredibly missed his effort while standing on the goal line, which is quite the remarkable feat.
