8. Facundo Ferreyra

If there was any chance that Fabricio Coloccini might turn to the scouting game after his final playing contract, the Facundo Ferreyra saga should end it.

Signed on the back of a good scoring record in Argentina and a reasonable return in the Ukraine, Ferreyra was like a Newcastle transfer department's dream. He was cheap, motivated to move thanks to political upheaval and could potentially reap profits later if the deal worked out in the long-term.

He also ended up being the perfect answer to why only buying within those brackets can only work sporadically. Ferreyra - a former U20 international - has been a comical disaster on the scale of Xisco and Ignacio Gonzalez, and you have to wonder whether anyone actually bothered to watch him play.

Because if they only took the word of his "mate" Coloccini, they all need to take a serious look at themselves. Inevitably, that sounds like the most Newcastle thing that could possibly have happened.
