Few things are certain in football but you could put your house on Graeme Souness continuing to tell managers how to do their jobs with no qualifications, Sky Sports over-hyping transfer deadline day, and Mike Ashley never giving interviews.

Or, you could have until the last day of the season when the frightened looking Newcastle owner decided to let the fans of his club finally know what his voice sounded like.

That he chose to come out at that moment wasn't all that surprising, considering the financial stakes, but what he said was nothing short of astonishing.

Not only did he proclaim that the club wasn't for sale at any price, but he also claimed that the agenda was "now definitely to win something" and that money would be spent to that end. Whether you believe him or not doesn't really matter (99% would probably urge caution, and rightly so), but the manner of his appearance was the biggest surprise of the season.
