When it was announced that Asamoah Gyan, star of the 2010 World Cup, would be joining Sunderland, fans were drooling at the prospect of the star on Wearside. Heartbreaking penalty aside, Gyan shone for Ghana, and his clear talent was replicated in red and white stripes, as he finished the 2010/11 season with 11 goals in his 33 games, a decent return for the striker in his first season of English football. Then came the stunning news that he would be switching to Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates. Sunderland fans adored Gyan and his flamboyant dances, but things quickly turned sour and the Ghanaian departed - initially on loan - for the Middle East. He is reportedly earning over £170,000 of tax-free cash every week, and has currently tallied up 113 goals in 104 games for Al-Ain. He has so much talent, but it's such a tremendous waste of a career for the one-time BBC African Football of the Year.
