Everton, a well ran club with a respectable reputation and a solid history in kit design, shocked their fans by allowing Le-Coq Sportif to present this electric pink kit in 2010. The theory behind the creation of this blinding outfit was one of business. Everton and the kit makers set into motion a business plan to attract female fans and make the club more family-friendly. They had experimented with pink trim and purple third kits in previous seasons, but in 2010 they had the confidence to go for it completely. Although one of the first, Everton are not the only sports club to use garish pink designs to attract women to the club. Champion Rugby League club Leeds Rhinos have repeatedly used pink away kits in recent years in a bid to bring in girls through the gate. No statistics were released to support their plan, but one can assume that Evertons ideas were not successful as the pink plan was abandoned and they have returned to more sensible colours since then.
