5 Former British Premier League Stars You Never Knew Played Abroad

3. Nigel Reo-Coker

A player who was hampered by injury during his time in his latter days in the Premier League, Reo-Coker was often found with the captain's armband for West Ham United and Aston Villa before his contract expired with the Birmingham based club, whereupon he joined Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer. Things went from bad to worse after that after a brief spell at Ipswich Town, and Reo-Coker decided enough was enough, and moved to Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps, who had just joined the US based league. Now, I'm not trying to say Re0-Coker left for Canada to enjoy his semi-retirement, but suffice to say that in an interview with the BBC recently, the former England Under-21 international claimed that he had developed a huge interest in salmon fishing. The 29-year-old was hook line and sinker earlier this year when the Vancouver side came calling, presumably former Premier League stalwart Andy O'Biren, who also plays for the Whitecaps, was used as bait to lure him in, and Re0-Coker now feels he is in the right plaice to become the biggest catch in the club's history. See what I did there? But as I say, he probably hasn't gone there just to fish.
