5 Reasons Why Chelsea Won't Win The Premier League
2. He Can't Rely On Old Favourites
Frank Lampard, John Terry, Ashley Cole and Petr Cech are players who epitomised Mourinho's first stint in charge of the club, and they are players that are still being used by the Portuguese coach. All over 31-years-old, and Lampard an astonishing 35, these players, possibly Cech aside, are quickly coming to the end of their careers, but Mourinho continues to put a lot of faith into them. Despite good performances from Terry and Lampard, it surely cannot last, and in the case of Cole and Cech, they haven't been at their glittering best. Whilst the Blues have a ready replacement for Cech in Thibaut Courtois, currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, for the other three players the club are struggling to replace them, which is one of the reasons why they're still there. Terry's lack of pace will soon catch up with him, and Gary Cahill has not yet proved he is capable of filling the gap. Terry, Cole and Lampard's contracts are all up at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen as to whether they will be renewed by the club, who had to think for a very long time before handing Lampard a one-year extension last season. The fact that these players are still some of the best performers in the side show how off key the rest of the team has been, and surely it's only a matter of time before they start faltering this season?
