5 Reasons Spurs Will Still Qualify For The Champions League

3. They Can Strengthen This Month

Despite spending so much in the summer, thanks to the world record sale of Gareth Bale and additional sales of Scott Parker, Steven Caulker, Tom Huddlestone and Clint Dempsey, Spurs' gross spend wasn't actually very much at all. This means that funds are available for this month's transfer window and, despite stating his intention to blood more youngsters rather than purchasing more new talent, Tim Sherwood should seriously consider adding to the squad. Of course, with so many newcomers in the summer making this season a transitional one already, it could be ill-advised to bring in yet more new faces, but the fact is that Spurs undoubtedly need reinforcements in certain positions. A new first choice left back, or at least some real competition for Danny Rose, should be a necessity, as Rose is arguably not a top four player anyway and, when he's been injured, Jan Vertonghen has been forced to play at left back in big games, which severely weakens Tottenham in the centre half position. Going back in for Fabio Coentrao - who is still not getting much game time at Real Madrid in what is a World Cup year - could be a great short-term solution to that problem. If, as is rumoured, Jermain Defoe heads to Major League Soccer (or even if he doesn't), another striker might not be a bad idea either. The other top clubs all tend to have four first team strikers and, given that Roberto Soldado isn't setting White Hart Lane alight just yet, some more competition could be good for him - and with names like Alexandre Pato and Javier Hernandez being banded around in connection with potential moves to Spurs, this could be a very good January for the club.
