6 Shock Revelations From Kieron Dyer's Time At Newcastle

2. He Feels Responsible For Sir Bobby Robson's Sacking

To his credit, Dyer has also admitted that the biggest regret of his career - or one of them - was that his refusal to play out of position contributed directly to the loss of Sir Bobby Robson, who was sacked by Freddy Shepherd back in 2004:
€œI refused to play right wing... I refused to play, which I should never have done. It didn€™t help that a couple of games later he got sacked."
Interestingly, Dyer's confession also included a mention of another team-mate involved in the bust up, who he protected by taking all of the blame:
€œHe understood why. I€™ve never come out and given my side of the story because I€™m protecting one of my fellow players at the time. So I could never come out and tell my story."
Very intriguing: so who is the mystery team-mate? Inevitably, Sri Bobby refused to throw Dyer to the lions, and protected him when the story got out:
"Even when I refused to play, immediately after the game the Press got wind of it, Bobby came in and he was still trying to protect me. Even though I€™d let him down. It made me feel even worse. It was my biggest regret.€
