Even though there was an image of Dyer at Newcastle as lacking the passion that could have made him a true great, there was clearly more to him than met the eye. First his aggression in wanting to sort Bowyer out in the changing rooms should change the way fans think of his temperament, and then there's his comments about witnessing the fall-out between Shearer and Gullit. You might have thought that the mood at the club would have been a difficult one to take even for those not directly involved, but Dyer seems to suggest otherwise. Protected by the passage of time, he actually admits to enjoying the situation:
It was interesting, I loved it, seeing at close hand what was going on. I felt sorry for Ruud Gullit because I think Alan has since come out and stated he didnt like Ruud."
