With the weight of the world on his shoulders and in front of the Stamford Bridge faithful, Lampard confidently struck the ball past Pepe Reina, only to be swamped by his teammates and the adulation of the watching fans. In the modern day game, where extreme wages and scandal sell news stories, it was fitting that in an emotional moment the man that has displayed such professionalism, loyalty and compassion was the one that saw Chelsea through to an historic moment in the clubs history.
