8 Lessons We Can Learn From 2014 World Cup Adverts

7. For A Brief Few Weeks The Nation Will Live In Harmony

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2refNRZKADE This advert for Vauxhall predicts what we all know to be true. For the duration of the tournament, or at least for how long England stay in the competition, the English public will put aside their petty differences. Gone will be the club rivalries. We€™ll say goodbye to personal disputes, political differences and there will be that one moment where everyone thinks "you know what, we could win this." Everyone will share a moment of blissful delusion and unprecedented levels of national pride when the lowly underdogs England face the might of Costa Rica and maybe even win. What the advert tiptoes around, though, is what comes after. When England are knocked out. There will be uproar. There will be an inquiry. Pundits will fill the back pages of national newpapers with analysis of why Rooney can€™t perform at a World Cup. All that good feeling hinted at in this advert will be forgotten and we€™ll all go back to hating each other. Let€™s appreciate the good feeling while it lasts.
