Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd: 5 Lessons For The Red Devils

3. United Miss Adnan Januzaj When He Doesn't Feature

Though Januzaj was brought on as a substitute for a second consecutive fixture, it was simply too little, too late for the Belgian to make a mark. He should be starting, or at least subbed on with enough time remaining to get settled into the match as he was at Fulham. With Juan Mata putting in a sub-par performance in an unnatural position, it begs the question why Moyes is favouring a player who does not naturally fit into a wide position over someone in fine form who is a naturally gifted winger. When brought on against Fulham, Adnan Januzaj was hugely effectively and was one of the players who made the biggest impact after being unable to break down the Fulham defence for 77 minutes. His pace and crossing ability were missed before he came on at Old Trafford, and the same applies to the game with Arsenal. Though Antonio Valencia was a threat on the wide right, Juan Mata wasn't on the left. Juan Mata lacked the pace and tempo that Januzaj has at his disposal, and looked to come inside whenever possible. Putting the Spaniard on the bench is not the solution, but Januzaj playing out wide while Mata is utilised elsewhere will give United more quality than leaving the Belgian out altogether. Mata is currently in a transitional period, and playing him out of position does not help.
