Arsenal: 10 Players Wenger Must Sign In January

4. Fabricio ColocciniClub: Newcastle United Position: Centre-Back Value: £15m It will take an awful lot to prize Newcastle's Argentinian captain away, considering his ability and influence on the team's defensive fortunes, but considering Arsenal's need for a defender, and the former Deportivo player's skill-set, he could be an ideal solution. Now packing Premier league experience into his locker - after an initially fatally shaky start in black and white - the ball-playing centre-half has become a rock for the Magpies in the past couple of seasons, and his ability to read the game, to tackle and to play with the ball at his feet make him a serious contender for one of the best in his position in the league. It was for good reason he was chosen as part of the Premier League team of the season last year, and when he has played this season, it looks like he will have another like last year. There are questions about his ability to win balls in the air, but as any Newcastle fan will attest, Coloccini's skills make heading the ball unnecessary, and his positional sense generally allows him to win the ball on the ground anyway. He also tends to help out his full-backs, coming across to tackle wingers before they can get a dangerous ball in that would require defending from a more dangerous position. A legend at Newcastle now, with team-mates like the current Arsenal squad, Colo could be even better - even if his age and likely price tag might be something of a boundary.
