Arsenal: 10 Players Wenger Must Sign In January

5. Igor Denisov

Club: Zenit St Petersburg Position: Defensive Midfield Value: £10m A considerable talent, the current Russian captain has found himself the source of speculation during the early season thanks to a high-profile demotion to the Zenit youth team after his apparent refusal to play in a league match unless the club renegotiated his contract. A host of clubs, including both Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Arsenal are said to be monitoring his situation, especially after that protest at his club - which apparently stemmed from the club's acquisitions of Axel Witsel and Hulk on massive deals. With Zenit unlikely to match Denisov's wages to the new signings, who are said to be on three times as much as the rest of the squad, so the player may agitate further for a move away from the club. He has something of a reputation as a bad boy, but it's that sort of assertiveness that Arsenal have missed in defensive midfield in the past few seasons, and he would be a big addition to the foundation of the team.
