Arsenal Transfers: 4 Signings To Bring Back League Glory

3. Leighton Baines

The left back position is one of the key areas where Arsenal lack character and depth. Although the gunners have Kieran Gibbs, who has enjoyed a great season as first choice left back this year, the downside is that he has had his fair share of injuries. Those injuries usually leave Vermaelen to drift out wide of his centre back position, to cover the left side, thanks to the obvious unsuitability of usual replacement Andre Santos, who has proved to be little more than a disastrous signing. Arsenal need another left-back, and Leighton Baines would fit the bill perfectly. The 28 year old's profile has rapidly risen in the past few years: his consistent tackling, interceptions and chance creation has lead him to being one of the Premier League's best left backs as well as one of the hottest properties every time a transfer window opens. His exceptional performances for the Toffees this season should surely have left England coach Roy Hodgson scratching his head on whether to award Baines a regular England€™s first team position, ahead of Ashley Cole, and that move must be coming sooner rather than later with Cole advancing in years. Baines€™s consistent all round play at left back and ability to play around 40 games a season would make him the perfect addition to Arsenal's ranks, adding competition for places as well as bringing the quality of the squad up.
