Arsenal Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Karim Benzema Is Not The Right Man For Arsenal
5. He Doesn't Work Hard Enough For An English Audience
Although this is very much a redundant reason in many aspects it does become important in the English Premier League, a division that has for many years championed work rate and effort. A classic case is Carlos Tevez, who was forgiven by many Manchester City fans after he went AWOL for six months purely because his work ethic on the pitch was so exemplary. On the flip side you have Berbatov, who has been lauded as a great technician on the ball but derided without it, a circumstance where he becomes very much a passenger even in a very lethargic looking Fulham side. This becomes particularly pertinent when considering today's penchant in football for a high pressure game and winning the ball high up the pitch. The Gunners have Giroud, a player who although does not score many goals, does at least put massive amounts of effort in as the lone front man. Whilst his fellow countryman Benzema does possess excellent pace and a burst of acceleration that Giroud does not have, his workrate as the only striker does leave much to be desired. He was preferred by Jose Mourinho to Gonzalo Higuain on many occasions during the Portuguese coach's time at the club, but this season has slipped into erratic form, being booed on several occasions by his own fans. His displays may have picked up over the festive period, but the Madrileno's are still unsure over one of their star players, and Gunners' fans should also be wary of the Frenchman's languid style.
