Arsenal Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Karim Benzema Is Not The Right Man For Arsenal
A popular theory in English football at the moment is that Premier League leaders Arsenal are a little light up front. Their attacking options were compounded on Monday with the news that Theo Walcott would be out for six months following a knee injury in the FA Cup win over Tottenham Hospur. Aside from anything else, the news also meant Walcott will miss this summer's World Cup in Brazil just as he was beginning to show a potency up front that was severely lacking from his game as a youngster. A bigger problem that resulted in the injury to the England international was that the Gunners were left with French workaholic Olivier Giroud and 'butt of many a joke' Nicklas Bendtner as their main strikers. Germany's Lukas Podolski provides some cover but has proved unconvincing in the central striking position when used there recently. The question now is will Arsene Wenger strengthen as many believe he should in the January transfer window? Fulham's Dimitar Berbatov has been mentioned as a cheap alternative, with the Bulgarian, a player who makes walking look difficult, valued at around the £2million mark. At 32-years-old, Berbatov would only be a short term solution, possibly plugging the gap until the summer when a permanent replacement can be found. Many feel this could be Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, a player who has long been linked with Wenger's side, but also a man who probably isn't what the Gunners are looking for. Whilst undoubtedly blessed with talent, the Frenchman still has a lot to prove, and here are the reasons why the Gunners should probably avoid splashing out on him.
