Arsenal Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Karim Benzema Is Not The Right Man For Arsenal

4. He Would Cost Too Much

One very real sticking point for Wenger would be the cost of Benzema, with the Frenchman valued anywhere from £35-£50million. After splashing out in the summer on Benzema's former teammate Mesut Ozil, many expect Wenger to show similar ambition in the transfer market, but let us not forget that this is the same man who survived 17 years at the club without spending over £13million. Spending millions on players does not always provide results, as City and Chelsea have proved on numerous occasions, and even Ozil's form has dipped over the last month or so despite his excellent start to life in England. After years of being vilified for not spending enough in transfer windows, should Wenger really go all out and spend yet another half a century on another player? Especially a player that would be cup tied for the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich in February. No one expected Wenger to sign Ozil in the summer, and you can't help but feel another surprise is on the cards, with the Arsenal manager not simply going for what many believe is an obvious choice in Benzema. For example, how many times has he gone for the obvious option in the past? Never would be pretty accurate. It is a lot more plausible for example that Loic Remy, currently on loan at Newcastle United will arrive for a fee less than £15million, as a player who has a proven track record this season at least of scoring in English football.
