Arsenal Transfers: 5 Reasons Wenger Must Buy Wanyama

2. He Is Untainted By Failure

Arsenal have made some... interesting signings in recent years: Mertesacker was starting for Germany in Euro 2008 but slipped behind the duo of Dortmund€™s Mats Hummels and Bayern€™s Holger Badstuber in Euro 2012, Lukas Podolski had failed at Bayern and was relegated with Cologne before moving to London, Mikel Arteta€™s career seemed to have reached a peak at Everton, while Olivier Giroud was in France€™s Ligue 2 at age 23. While none of them are bad players, they are not on the upward curve the likes of Fabregas (Barcelona), Nasri (Marseille), Henry (Juventus) or Vieira (Milan) were on. Wanyama might not be joining from a club as big as some of those but he is coming off the back of success, albeit in Scotland. Watching Arsenal the feeling can sometimes be that the players are just €˜happy to be there€™. This feeling intensifies and turns into €˜I€™m only here for the money€™ when Andrey Arshavin takes to the field. Wanyama would grab his chance to play for a top team in the Premier League and would want to continue picking up medals, not settle for mediocrity, as Arsenal appear to be.
