Arsenal Transfers: 5 Reasons Wenger Must Buy Wanyama

3. He Is Physical

Victor Wanyama 2 Sometimes your greater strength can be your biggest weakness. Arsenal look to play fluid, attacking football which is a delight on the eye. They play from the back, and their style is personified in their playmakers - Jack Wilshere, Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky, Aaron Ramsey €“ and their fleet footed forwards in Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. However, none of those players are the most physical, and even the players who you might think physical actually are not. The Premier League is well known as a physical league, and Arsenal are known as a team that can be bullied off the ball and off their stride. Olivier Giroud offers some strength and aerial ability upfront but that doesn€™t really fit with the Arsenal setup. At the back Vermaelen is more a ball playing centre back, while Mertesacker may be nearly two minutes high but he is not a rock solid centre back, sometimes resembling a bambi on ice. In Germany he once went 63 games picking up only one yellow card €“ either he was making hundreds perfectly timed challenges, or he was not getting enough challenges in Wanyama will go toe to toe with the opposition and offer some protection to his team mates.
