Arsenal's 10 Most Hated Players

9. Sol Campbell

Sol Campbell enraged Tottenham fans in 2001 when he made the decision to quit the club and join their deadly London rivals Arsenal. Campbell, who was club captain and star player at White Hart Lane at the time, quickly became public enemy No.1 as a result, and has been an easy target for abuse ever since. The centre-back had made 255 appearances for Spurs and had become a firm fan favourite, but in the summer of 2001 his contract at the club wound down. Despite protracted negotiations over a new deal and public assurances he would stay, Campbell stated his desire to leave and play Champions League football, joining Arsenal on a free. If seeing their star plyer walk out the door for absolutely nothing didn't incense fans enough, then his prior insistence in an interview with Spurs Monthly magazine that he would never play for the Gunners tipped many over the edge. The Englishman has been considered a judas figure ever since in some sections of north London, and still hasn't been forgiven even now.
