Best English Spurs XI Of The Premier League Era

9. Centre Back: Ledley King

Ledley King is probably the first name everyone thinks of when they think of English Spurs players in the Premier League era - heck, he's probably the first name most people think of when they think of Spurs. The outstandingly talented central defender spent the entirety of his 13 year playing career with the Lilywhites €“ making him a one-club man which truly is a rarity in modern football €“ and he inevitably became the club€™s captain.

King€™s career was famously and sadly heavily tarnished by a chronic knee injury that meant he couldn't actually train at all in his later playing years. But this really only served to emphasise just how rare and great a talent he was, as he could still perform to excellent standards quite effortlessly when playing at the top level in spite of this fact. If King had remained fully fit for his entire career, he would undoubtedly have been England€™s stand-out defender of the last twenty years.

He made 268 league appearances for Spurs, won the League Cup with the club in 2008 and was runner up in the same competition with them on two other occasions. He also led the club in to the Champions League in 2010 and represented England in Euro 2004 and the 2010 World Cup during his time at White Hart Lane, earning 21 caps - which should have been a much higher number - and scoring two international goals prior to his forced retirement.
