Liverpool: 5 Reasons Luis Suárez Is The Undisputed Player Of The Year

2. The Player Of The Year Should Play Well All Season

How many players can say they've played well literally all season long? Since the first kick of the season way back in August, Suárez has been in superb form whereas Gareth Bale has only been world class since Christmas and RVP has now gone on a run of form where he has scored just 1 goal in his last 6 Premier League appearances. Suárez has been consistently brilliant whereas the rest have stuttered and stopped at certain times of the season. The fact Bale is so highly tipped to win the award does give off a very strange feeling. It's as if the award is given to the player who is in the best form at the time of voting and the rest of season is simply forgotten. I'd definitely rank RVP higher than Bale if I was personally voting. There are no doubts that Bale is in the world class bracket, the bracket just behind Messi and Ronaldo, but you surely cannot be player of the season if you're not actually the player of the season - you can't just be player of the last two months! "Suárez has continued to perform at a high level all season and has bagged 21 goals (now 22)... which makes him the top scorer in the league. For his consistency he just edges the contest against Bale, for me. Remember, Bale had only netted six times at Christmas, before he went on this superb run of form."³ That quote is from Jamie Redknapp's column on the Sky Sports website and pretty much sums up exactly what I'm saying, emphasising that Bale wasn't pulling up trees before Christmas and therefore cannot be named Player of the Year. ³ - http://www.skysports.com/opinion/story/0,25212,18932_8546121,00.html
