Liverpool Transfers: 5 Reasons Rodgers Should Sign Samuel Eto'o
2. New Market Opportunities
It might seem somewhat cynical to acknowledge it but signing Eto'o would also represent a smart new business opportunity. The Premier League is a major selling brand around the world, and there is a reason the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal have actively looked to breaking their brands in new markets - predominantly Asia, and of course now America - the market that most of the top four are aiming to capitalise on. What Eto'o would bring is a key to the African market - one in which there is already huge interest in the Premier League - and Liverpool could make some further steps towards cementing their global appeal, as well as gaining new commercial revenue streams, which is increasingly important to keep up with the so-called footballing super-powers. Quite how Eto'o would take to the suggestion that he was being used as a marketing tool remains to be seen, but his benefit is that the business possibilities are very much secondary to the impact he could have on the first-team squad.
