Liverpool Transfers: 7 Players To Make Rodgers' Reds Champions

2. Xabi Alonso - Real Madrid

Sometimes, even if something is working well, the idea of bringing in someone even better is too hard to resist. This is the case with Xabi Alonso, an ex-Liverpool player who was one of the best players for the club during his spell at Anfield, and even though the club have a number of talented players in Alonso's position already, he would add both depth and world class talent, which could be key to their future success. Alonso is one of the finest passers in the game and his long range shots are mesmerising. Liverpool have solid passers in Lucas, Gerrard and Henderson, but none of the three come close to the ability the Spaniard possesses and his intelligence could prove vital to their title hopes. On top of this, Xabi has reportedly snubbed a new contract to stay at the Bernabeu amid reports that he could be set for a move away. Will Alonso return to the club where he made the transition into a world class midfielder? Or will another club lure him away? If it is the former, Rodgers should welcome Alonso with open arms no matter how much it takes to lure him to the club. At the age of 32, Xabi is in the later stages of his career though still has a few seasons to go before retirement and he still possesses the same world class quality he always has.
