This could be seen as the least realistic of the seven listed in this article, but would be an incredible capture if it happened. Mata was linked with a move away in the summer after seemingly falling out with Mourinho, and has since gone of to play less-than expected for a player with his talent. With Mourinho preferring to utilise the likes of Willian, Oscar and Schurrle, there is only so much a player as good as Mata can take before they look for another club, and if he reaches the end of his tether this January then Liverpool could be an option for the Spaniard. Even if Rodgers was only able to pull off a loan move for the rest of the season, Mata could be the difference between Europa League hopefuls to top four finishers, and in conjunction with the signing of one or two of the players listed above, could even help the club win the league. Mata is a game changer and link-ups between him and Suarez would be lethal, much like how zil and Giroud have played for Arsenal this season. As Suarez has managed to rack up plenty of goals with the help of Gerrard, Henderson and the like, one can only imagine how many he'd get with the help of a playmaker like Juan Mata. As mentioned, this deal could prove tricky to accomplish as Chelsea and Liverpool are league rivals, but Mourinho is a man quoted as saying he has no problem with selling to a rival, so why not? If Mata is unhappy with his lack of game time, Rodgers should swoop in with a bid as soon as he can. Mata would prove to be a key player for Liverpool, on a similar wage and potentially playing Champions League football next season; Liverpool would be getting an under-utilised, talented player worth every penny spent on him and will likely be successful due to his experience in the league.
