Liverpool's 10 Greatest Premier League Victories

8. Manchester United 0-1 Liverpool - 2001/02

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqTmSW63B8o In January 2002 Liverpool returned to the venue of their great victory just over a year earlier, and it was to be yet another day to remember for Houllier and his cup treble winners. By this point the Reds were right in the title race alongside United and Arsenal, so the game had even more meaning to it than in 2000/01. Ferguson's side were looking for a ninth straight Premier League victory, but Liverpool managed to nullify them on the whole. The first-half was fairly forgettable, in truth, with Ryan Giggs having the best chance. The second-half was fantastic though. Despite United's dominance of possession they didn't create a huge amount. In the 77th minute Nicolas Anelka and John Arne Riise both had chances to open the scoring, and there was sudden belief that the Reds could win at Old Trafford for the second time in a row. That is exactly what happened, as Steven Gerrard's wonderful pass found Murphy, who dinked the ball over Barthez. The Englishman was the hero yet again- he also scored the winner there in 2004, from the penalty spot- and despite a late onslaught, Liverpool held on to clinch an enormous win. They eventually finished second behind Arsenal. Liverpool Starting XI: Dudek, Wright, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Murphy, Hamann, Gerrard, Riise, Heskey, Owen.
