Liverpool's 10 Greatest Premier League Victories

9. Manchester United 0-1 Liverpool - 2000/01

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5h5IWTJKOA Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United side were unbeaten at home for almost two years when Houllier's Liverpool visited in December 2000. The reigning champions were a formidable side to say the least, and the odds were stacked against the Reds. It was to be a nervy, but ultimately wonderful afternoon for the travelling fanatics. Liverpool were renowned for being tough to beat back then, and the likes of Carragher, Stephane Henchoz and Sami Hyypia were colossal all afternoon. Danny Murphy's long-range effort tested Fabien Barthez, and from the resulting corner Emile Heskey's header was cleared off the line by Paul Scholes. Murphy wouldn't have to wait much longer for his moment of glory, however. Following Gary Neville's needless handball on the edge of the box, the midfielder curled home a sublime free-kick to make it 1-0 just before the break. After the interval Owen hit the crossbar, while at the other end United began piling on the pressure. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's effort was saved by Sander Westerveld. Despite the hosts' growing dominance, Liverpool held firm. With two minutes remaining Luke Chadwick was sent-off for pulling down Vladimir Smicer. It was the final nail in United's coffin. Liverpool Starting XI: Westerveld, Babbel, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Murphy, Gerrard, Biscan, Barmby, Heskey, Owen.
