Liverpool's 10 Greatest Premier League Victories

4. Everton 2-3 Liverpool - 2000/01

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-bc0wWMNT0 If that was dramatic, this win over Everton was equally so, and much more important. Liverpool were desperate to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the competition's history, and by the time April 2001 rolled around they were neck and neck with Leeds for the third and final qualifying place. Heskey gave Houllier's team a dream start when he raced through and fired emphatically past Paul Gerrard, but Duncan Ferguson equalised before the break with a well-struck effort. 12 minutes into the second-half the Reds were ahead again, as a good counter-attack led to right-back Markus Babbel firing into the corner to make it 2-1. Fowler then missed a penalty to put the game to bed, and when David Unsworth equalised from the spot- Igor Biscan had been sent-off prior to this- victory looked to be out of Liverpool's reach. Step forward Gary McAllister. The 36-year-old, who had surprisingly joined from Coventry City the previous summer, curled home an outrageous 45-year free-kick in stoppage-time, giving Liverpool arguably their most important three points of the whole season. They ended up finishing third, qualifying for the Champions League in the process. Liverpool Starting XI: Westerveld, Babbel, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Smicer, Hamann, McAllister, Biscan, Heskey, Fowler.
