Liverpool's 10 Greatest Premier League Victories

3. Chelsea 0-1 Liverpool - 2008/09

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=949dq2VGsmk This may be far from the most entertaining, memorable victory of Liverpool's over the last 20 years or so, but in terms of achievement it was definitely up there with the best. Chelsea were incredibly strong at home at this point, having gone 86 matches unbeaten in the league at Stamford Bridge. As good as the Reds were under Benitez, not many expected them to get anything out of the game. Liverpool took an early lead, with Xabi Alonso's effort fortuitously deflecting past Petr Cech and into the net. From that point on, the Reds were magnificent, defending for their lives and offering quality on the break. Alonso hit the post with a terrific second-half free-kick, and barring a chance for Ashley Cole and a couple of opportunities for the dangerous Deco, the likes of Carragher, Daniel Agger and Javier Mascherano kept the hosts quiet from start to finish. Liverpool saw the game out with relative ease, and it was a victory that made the whole of the Premier League sit up and take notice. Benitez's side were formidable that season, and eventually just missed out on the title to United. Liverpool Starting XI: Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Agger, Aurelio, Alonso, Mascherano, Kuyt, Gerrard, Riera, Keane.
