Markovic had a superb time of things at Benfica, and was touted as one of the brightest young players in European football last season. His nomination for the 2014 Golden Boy award proves that. When Liverpool snapped him up for £19.8m in the summer, there was much excitement about the quality he would bring to the side. He has failed miserably so far though. Every time the 20-year-old has been given the opportunity to showcase his talents he has looked completely off the pace, running straight into players, losing possession and showing a lack of strength in his attacking midfield role. Admittedly the Premier League can often be difficult to adjust to for a young player, but Markovic really hasn't shown any spark whatsoever. The Serbia international simply must have a lot of talent, but no goals in nine fairly anemic appearances to date does not represent a good start. He has been one of the most disappointing of Rodgers' summer signings, and must go up a few gears if he is to truly make a name for himself on Merseyside.
