Man City: 5 Reasons Pellegrini Won't Win The Quadruple

2. Pellegrini Has No Major European Trophies

Manuel Pellegrini is a fine coach. He got Villarreal and Malaga punching above their weight, and managed Real Madrid to a record La Liga points haul, only to finish second to Barcelona. In Ecuador, he won a national championship, and he did the same in Argentina. Since moving to Europe ten years ago however, he has no trophies at all, not even a Copa del Rey. It would be a foolish man to predict he would not break his duck at the first attempt with Man City, but to suggest he will win four in one season is taking the 'London buses' joke a bit too far. Pellegrini is certainly going to prove his doubters wrong, and even a league title on its own this season would secure his place in Man City folklore. No one would be disappointed should four trophies prove beyond the Chilean, and that is not to say he shouldn't try, but he does not yet have the cold hard trophy-winning credentials for his claims to be taken seriously. He remains a breath of fresh air for the Premier League, and if any manager was to win the quadruple few could be more likeable than the current Man City manager.
