Man City vs Man Utd: Where The Game Will Be Won & Lost

United's Width

In the same fixture last year, as had been a recurring theme when Ferguson's side faced City, the former United boss played with great width. While this is a trademark of any United team, Ferguson utilised his strength on the flanks to expose City's key weakness. Though the Blues have signed winger Jesus Navas, they can be rather predictable in their style of play. It seems that everything must go through the centre, and if that fails, they seem to lack another option. Whether Navas' inclusion in the team can remedy this will be seen in time, however City are still prone to concede to attacks down the flanks, as the majority of their midfielders like to tuck in instead of hugging the touchlines. The same cannot be said of United's wing men. If it is Young and Valencia that start as would be expected under Ferguson, it is likely that they will be given instruction to keep their width and be ready to attack with speed on the counter. And as long as their delivery into the box is adequate, the likes of Van Persie and Rooney will not hesitate in front of goal.
