Man Utd: 5 Reasons Fans Should Be Optimistic About The Season Ahead

2. Rivals

Whilst both Manchester City and Chelsea have strengthened this season, there are still a number of reasons United fans can be optimistic of beating their rivals to the Premier League title once again. For one, City have a new manager in place also in the form of Manuel Pellegrini who, unlike Moyes, has no experience of managing in English football. Despite a thumping 4-0 victory over Newcastle, a 3-2 loss at Cardiff will signal to Pellegrini that there is still a lot of work to be done. The likes of Navas, Jovetic and Negredo could take a little time to settle in, whilst Joe Hart seems to be continuing his patchy form from last season, leaving City wondering about dropping the English shot-stopper. Chelsea, with Mourinho at the helm, look a larger threat. A solid defence matched with the attacking threat of Oscar, Hazard and Mata - amongst many others - could be the recipe for a title reclaim. But with no world class striker currently on board things could be proven difficult for Jose, especially now that they seem to have failed in their bid to sign Wayne Rooney. Whilst United may be dealing with a new manager and a poor transfer window, their rivals haven't exactly maintained any continuity or pressed ahead in terms of the playing squad. This Manchester United team eased to the title last year, so there's no reason to believe they will be left trailing the boys in blue.
