Man Utd: 5 Reasons Wayne Rooney Should Be Made Captain

3. He Is A Player That David Moyes Can Trust

I have talked before in previous articles about managers wanting to surround themselves with players they can trust. I think we have seen this plenty of times in the past when players have signed from a team that the manager used be in charge of. David Moyes was in a fortunate position in that Rooney was already here when he arrived at the club €“ but having worked with him at Everton; he had a pretty good idea on what he was going to get from him. Moyes knows that he is going to have a very difficult second season in charge and his job might be on the line if results don€™t go well. Therefore, he will want his captain to be a player that he can trust. I don€™t think it€™s any great mystery as to why the club have recently been prepared to break the bank to tie Rooney down on a new contract; it€™s because Moyes sees him as an integral part of the team. Rooney is simply the sort of player that the team can be rebuilt around so he perfect man to be the next captain of the club. Of course, it€™s one thing to trust the player and quite enough to know that he also takes the culture of Man Utd on board and has the quality to make an impact. So, this factor on its own may not be a deciding one €“ but with the other factors detailed so far €“ it certainly creates a very strong case for Rooney.
