Man Utd Transfers: 10 Talented Players Who Utterly Failed At Old Trafford

4. Juan Sebastian Veron

The most expensive flop in Manchester United history, Veron had all the makings of a great player with so much talent, but it all failed to materialize. He was a great passer of the ball from the centre of midfield, and he could find space whenever he wanted to and was a strong player, which is exactly the ability that saw him attract United's attention, and plaudits as one of the most talented midfielders in the world at the time. United paid through the nose for his services, but it was £28.1million down the drain, which at the time made him the most expensive transfer in English football history and ended with him becoming the most expensive flop in history. Veron failed to adapt to the fast-paced English game and seemingly lost the ball every time he got it, looking powerless and lost as games regularly passed him by. Sir Alex stuck by the Argentianian, calling him a 'f*****g great player,' and though he hasn't been wrong many times, this time he got it monumentally incorrect. Veron was sold to Premier League rivals Chelsea for £17million in a move which seemed to cut United's losses (though the fact that they got that much for him is incredible). He played a little better in a blue shirt, but still failed before moving back to Italy and Argentina into football obscurity to be forgotten by all United fans.
