Man Utd Transfers: 10 Talented Players Who Utterly Failed At Old Trafford

5. Anderson

Brazilian midfielder Anderson arrived at Old Trafford with bags of potential and promise from Portuguese side Porto: he came billed with excellent passing ability and was thought to be strong in the air and at just 19, he had the potential to become a great player for a long time at Old Trafford. United had so much faith in him that they doggedly appealed for his work permit application, which had failed, to be accepted due to his exceptional talent and the size of the transfer fee - £20million - which made him the second most expensive Brazilian player (behind Kleberson of all people) and giving him a lot to live up to. Anderson was given numerous chances to justify a first team place at Manchester United, but he failed to make the grade, with just five goals in 104 appearances, and again it doesn't seem like he'll be a United player for much longer. He was poor at tackling and overall looked lost in a sea of talented United players with accusations perpetually following him that he was overweight and under-motivated. He went on loan to Serie A side Fiorentina last season but a more permanent move away from Old Trafford seems more than likely this season.
