2. Luka Modric
Another alternative to Gareth Bale, and a player that carries with him an intriguing sub-plot, is ex-Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric. The Croatian play-maker is another long-term target for the Red Devils who, along with Chelsea, courted the 27-year-old last summer prior to his move to Real Madrid. There however he has failed to settle down, being voted the worst signing in La Liga last season by Spanish newspaper
Marca. And the
London Evening Standard reports that Modric could be available for just £25 million. Last summer, the player admitted that he could be tempted by a return to England, a mere 12 months after leaving these shores behind. And if Real do sign Bale, Modric may find first team chances difficult to come by in the Spanish capital next season, which, rather ironically, could play straight into United's hands.
