4. Wayne Rooney Could Become The Midfielder United Badly Need
When you consider the prospect of United signing Lewandowski, one very obvious problem presents itself - how will Sir Alex Ferguson make room in his side for the star when he already has Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez and Danny Webeck? Some had suggested the veteran Scotsman would have to sell one of his four strikers to accommodate Lewandowski, and Ferguson has already
ruled out offloading Javier Hernandez, who many had tipped to leave. That then leaves Wayne Rooney, who has been
heavily linked with a move away from the club and to PSG. But United don't have to sell the Englishman to make room for Lewandowski, not when the former Everton star has been putting in such good performances in midfield recently. United have badly lacked a tough-tackling, tenacious box-to-box midfielder ever since Roy Keane left, and Rooney could fit that role like a glove. By converting him into a midfielder, and signing Lewandowski, Ferguson would be killing two birds with one stone by both bringing in a new world class striker and solving the midfield dilemma that has plagued United for years. The thought of Rooney playing alongside Carrick in the middle of the park with Shinji Kagawa and Wilfried Zaha on the flanks and Lewandowski and van Persie playing just in front of them is a tantalising prospect that would have even the meanest defence quaking in their boots. And don't forget you still have Hernandez and Welbeck to come off the bench.
