Newcastle: 10 Craziest Players Ever To Wear Black & White

7. Joey Barton

Many believe that Barton, who currently plays at QPR between posting things on Twitter, was intent on taking over the crown of Newcastle's baddest boy when he joined in 2007, but what was clear was that he wasn't really of sound mind when signing for the club (given that he said his desire to win trophies was behind the move.) Over the course of four heavily interrupted years in black and white, Barton amassed a rap sheet that included stamping on Sunderland player Dickson Etuhu, calling Newcastle fans viscious for calling for Sam Allardyce's head, full-blown assault, a criminal conviction (for an incident at Man City, admittedly) and numerous red card. He also famously called Alan Shearer a "sh*t manager with sh*t tactics," which maybe wasn't all that mad. New age philosopher and avid library book reader Barton's crowning glory came at the end of his Newcastle career, when he took to Twitter to insult the club, and then just before a possible move to Arsenal, he got Gervinho sent off, and allegedly ended their interest in him in one fell swoop.
