Newcastle Fans’ 11 Most Hated Players Of The Modern Era

3. Nile Ranger

It should never be forgotten that Newcastle gave Nile Ranger a major second chance. The former Southampton youngster had been locked up for a crime as a teenager, and released from the Saints as a result, but the Magpies decided not to judge the person by the rap sheet and saw enough talent to offer him a contract. He came with high expectations and masses of potential, and maintained an impressive record in the youth and reserve teams before making his bow in the first-team. Unfortunately, despite being an approachable lad, his arrogance and inability to control his temper got the better of him away from the pitch, and he seemed to walk around with an almighty chip on his shoulder. Further criminal accusations followed, and still Newcastle gave him third, fourth and fifth chances to redeem himself, but he simply couldn't keep himself out of the papers, and Newcastle fans grew increasingly sick of seeing his face there. When he was eventually released there were more cheers than disappointment for a lost prospect.
