Newcastle Fans’ 11 Most Hated Players Of The Modern Era

2. Gabriel Obertan

He might currently be being proclaimed the most unlikely saviour of Alan Pardew's wayward attempts to pull Newcastle out of the relegation zone, thanks to a couple of impressive performances, but it's fair to say that Gabriel Obertan is an almost universally hated player in fans' eyes. They say that nobody signs for Manchester United without the skills to pay the bills, but Obertan is the exception for most fans who have seen him play: he might be blisteringly fast and well capable of taking men on, but his decision making is worse than Lua-Lua's and fatally, he really doesn't look like he's all that bothered most of the time. That might be overly critical - and there is absolutely no way any player deserves to be booed ONTO the pitch as he has been - but Obertan earned his reputation with Newcastle fans, and his typically Gaellic lack of emotions seemed always to fuel the fires against him. If he saves the club from relegation he might be forgiven, but scars and bad feeling tend to last, unfortunately.
