For years now Newcastle have been short a world class defensive midfielder to help them compete in the higher echelons of the league. There is, admittedly, few world class CDM's out there at the moment but Newcastle could do a lot worse than looking to Valencia's Geoffrey Kondogbia.
An imposing and versatile destroyer, Kondogbia announced himself on the footballing scene with a string of impressive performances for Sevilla. And although an underwhelming spell with Monaco threatened to derail that hype, his reputation has been enhanced once more since joining Valencia- where he has been nothing short of brilliant.
Under trying circumstances at the club, Kondogbia has knuckled down and become one of Valencia's most important players. A beast of a man with surprisingly nimble ability on the ball, Kondogbia has all the necessary attributes to thrive as a defensive midfielder in the Premier League. Kondogbia may be the key to finally unlocking some of the attacking potential contained in that Newcastle side.
